Shear Care

Each Lexon shear is crafted with a passion and zeal for perfection. However, every tool needs a proper maintenance cycle to fulfill its maximum performance. We are here to assist you with the proper maintenance of a Lexon shear.

Proper shear performance requires constant cleaning and lubrication of the major contact points of your shears. If done so regularly, this will help to protect against rust and chemical deterioration, as well as retaining the sleek appearance of the shear. If ignored your shears will be more prone to damage and unsatisfactory results. Therefore, follow the easy steps below to ensure your shears achieve maximum performance in every cut.

Daily Maintenance:
Using a soft lintless cloth, wipe the shear blades after each haircut, which will reduce buildup. At the end of a busy day, oil your shears to ensure proper performance for the next cut. This can be done by adding a drop of oil to the screw with the shear in a closed position. Then open the shears and add a drop of oil to both inner blades and the pivot area. After oiling the shears, open and close the blades four to six times for proper lubrication. Proper lubrication will extend the life of the blades. When complete, wipe down the shears and store in the closed position, which avoids accidental damage to the blades.

The next step is to adjust tension for maximum performance from your Lexon shears. If the tension is too loose, shears tend to bend hair. If it is too tight, it causes unnecessary wear and user fatigue. To test for tension, hold the shears with the adjustment knob facing you and the thumb handle in your left hand. With the shear perfectly straight, lift up on the ring finger to open the blades half way. Then, let the ring finger handle go. The blades should close 2/3 of the way. At the end of the shear you should have about an 1/2 inch opening. If they are still closing all the way, repeat the process until they only close 2/3 of the way if they hang open too much loosen the adjustment knob until the proper opening is achieved.

Weekly Maintenance:
Ensure you have a proper work area cleared for easy maintenance of your shear. Then, carefully open the shears to a 90 degree angle. Loosen the adjustment knob enough so that the blades have enough gap between them to fit a folded paper towel between the pivot point to push out any hair particles and or debris that has built up. After the area between the blades are clean, put one or two drops of top oil into the "joint". It assists the cleaning process by washing out dirt and debris from in-between the blades. DO NOT PUT SCISSOR OIL DIRECTLY UNDER THE PIVOT POINT KNOB, only between the blades.

We understand that with even the most proper care and attention, your shears will need to be sharpened with time.
